In the midst of all the drama and concerns that the COVID-19 Pandemic has created there are what seem to be positive outcomes for some.
Many found time to explore new ways to use the lockdown period and some used it to explore new creative ideas and maybe learn new skills.
I for one – unable to go out and take photographs as easily as I was used to – found a new and remarkably fascinating genre to explore from the confines of my own studio. And that is Extreme Macro Photography.
This photographing very small things – typically small bug, beetle and insects at between 2X and 10X magnification. AT these scales it is endlessly amazing how the Natural World looks. It’s like another World – except of course it’s not – it’s this one right here. It’s not how we normally get to see it.
There are many technical challenges associated with this style of photography – and some specialist lenses and lighting too which were required. The results are often breath-taking.
Apparently – sales of macro photography equipment near quadrupled during the lockdown period. So great news for that niche business.
Here is a gallery where you can zoom right into the details of some of my creations.
